Vasectomy in Leeds and Bradford
Vasectomy is a permanent form of male contraception. Mr Sanjay Rajpal offers private vasectomy assessment for men from Leeds, Bradford, Bingley, Harrogate and the surrounding Yorkshire towns.
Who vasectomy is for
Vasectomy may suit men who are certain their family is complete or who do not want future fertility. It is not a good choice if you are undecided, under pressure, or relying on later reversal. Reversal is possible in some cases but is not guaranteed.
What happens
The tubes carrying sperm from the testicles are divided under local anaesthetic. The procedure is usually short and you can normally go home the same day. The testicles continue to make sperm, but sperm are no longer added to the semen after clearance.
Recovery
- Wear supportive underwear for the first few days.
- Expect bruising, swelling or aching for a short period.
- Avoid heavy lifting, cycling and strenuous exercise initially.
- Use contraception until the semen test confirms no sperm are present.
Risks to understand
Most men recover quickly, but risks include bleeding, infection, bruising, persistent testicular discomfort, failure to clear sperm, and very rarely late reconnection. These are discussed before consent so the decision is informed rather than rushed.
Questions to consider before booking
Vasectomy is best approached as permanent contraception. Before booking, consider whether you are certain about not having more children, whether your partner is aligned with the decision, and whether a major life change could alter your view. If there is any doubt, delay is usually safer than rushing.
The semen test matters
Vasectomy does not make you sterile immediately. Sperm can remain in the tubes beyond the operation site for a period after the procedure. You must continue contraception until the post-vasectomy semen test confirms clearance. This is one of the most important parts of safe vasectomy care.
